ELT Buzz Digest - Feb. 8th
All the "buzz" in English language teaching this week.

Dear Subscribers,
Here is our weekly digest! Lots of reading for you, choose what hits you. My tip this week is this essay about brain plasticity and “re-wiring”. It’s full of insight and properly humble about what we don’t know about the brain. There is far too much “science fiction” regarding the brain and what it is and does, than actual fact. True, competent neuroscientists know this. There is so much neuro and cognitive B.S. out there, I’m constantly pulling out my hair. This includes the usual screed of linguistic determinists (that language causes us to think/be different). Regarding neuroscience, also highly recommend this Aeon article - The Empty Brain. A must. The truth is, we know very little about how the brain works, does what it does and retains/accesses info.
Best,
